Spring into it

Woof woof! Wally here, your trusted border collie that run circles around the animals at Sandy Acres. I’ve been meaning to give you all an update since February, but well, we slid into the beginning of April already and I am finally here.

Let us first discuss the winter we’ve had… it has been so mild and so much fun to spend time outside! February lambing went pretty well with the nice weather. Ultimately, in February, we had 53 ewes lamb with a total of 111 lambs bouncing around; 57 ram lambs and 54 ewe lambs. The grandchildren came over right away as they were being born to give cuddles.

Sadly, my brother–the miniature austrailian shepard named Trixter who was nearing his 16th birthday, went over the rainbow bridge in the middle of March. He and I have had so much fun over the years! He loved this farm and adored Marie. Bonnie (the old english sheepdog) and I (the border collie and mastermind behind all shenanigans at the farm) knew he was ready to go, but it is always sad to see a beloved pet, a dog, and friend go. He will always remain a part of every family member’s memories and in our hearts forever.

On other fronts, 2024 calves are continuing to arrive, and in May, another crop of lambs will arrive. Spring is here!

I’ll bark at ya again soon with more updates from Sandy Acres. Until then, love ya.. bye! WOOF WOOF!

Sincerely, Wally

It’s a Brand New Year

2023 flew by super fast but was very enjoyable with many shows, lots of calves, lambs, baby donkeys, the farmers market, and many other memorable days.

Jeff and I welcomed two more grandchildren into the family, Walter who was born in March (Brady’s son) and Eliana who was born in September (Kayla’s daughter). Now, we have five total grandchildren.

The two toddlers, Emalee and Weston, enjoy their individual days here to visit and play with the animals. Weston has a particular fascination with machinery and also the cattle. Emalee, on the other hand, loves horses…and every thing else too. Both of them are pretty fearless! Kairi, our eldest, showed again this summer at the Northern Wisconsin State fair. We also got to watch Kairi explore her other interests: softball and her love of dancing.

This morning, as a part of a beautiful new year, I finally got my sleigh out (I’m so thankful for snow and a few nice days). Emalee joined me while I took Dancer out for a drive around the fields. It was AMAZING!

Things we are looking forward to in 2024 include a new crop of calves and baby lambs, many more horse drawn sleigh and wagon rides, getting out to some shows over the summer, and also more adventures/memories made with our friends and family.

A couple pages here on the website have been updated with some information. The Sandy Acres Meats page has our current meat offerings and prices. Additionally, we’ve been adding heifers to the Livestock For Sale page as I get photos of them. Check those pages out.

Don’t forget, I’m open every Monday afternoon from 3-7pm here at the farm for your meat purchases, so come out and see me! Also, available by appointment by calling me, Marie 715-579-2917.

Hopefully Wally (our Border Collie dog ;)) pops in here with an update during February while we are busy lambing!

Happy New Year! Sincerely, Marie Pagenkopf

2023 is here!

Woof woof! Happy New Year! Can you believe it’s already 2023?

Last Friday, I watched as the trailer left the driveway packed full of supplies and cattle for the Denver Stock Show. I knew I’d miss Marie but I also watched how excited she’d been preparing the animals for the show.

I’ve been reflecting upon 2022 and how quick that year went. The year included that trailer leaving for six shows/events: The Block & Bridle show, Miniature Hereford Junior Nationals, Northern Wisconsin State Fair, Iowa State Fair, Minnesota Beef Expo, and Kids & Cows.

Also… 2022 included LOTS of births… the list of new babies running around the farm in 2022 included: 2 miniature donkeys, 43 calves (22 bulls and 21 heifers), and 253 lambs (134 rams and 119 ewes). I got to tell you that all those baby animals kept me on my “paws”… I had to teach the new calves and lambs who the boss dog was around this farm. I ended up making friends with them all and licked their faces regularly too.

So, as we swing into this new year, we already have two new calves running around to start the year out strong! I can’t tell you how excited I am to see all that this year brings.

Additionally, I only have one more long day to await the return of my favorite human, Marie.

Woof Woof! Yours truly, Wally (the trusted boarder collie)

Excitement!

Hey guys! We’re so excited for our upcoming open house next Saturday, May 21st! Please come join us for meat specials, meat samples, farm tour, and petting zoo. The event runs from 1-4pm that afternoon. We can’t wait to see you then.

In other news, the first show of the season happened on April 30th and May 1st in Ellsworth, WI. Everyone really enjoyed the Block and Bridle Show.

A couple photos of the Block and Bridle Show

Now that May is here, we are in our second round of ewes lambing this spring and cows are continuing to calf.

After the open house, we will give you a full update of the spring baby tally! We hope to see you on Saturday. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give Marie a call 715-579-2917

More Spring Babies

Woof woof! Welcome back… it has been another month of babies! This month consisted of five new calves arriving and calling the farm home plus a new baby donkey!

Granddaughter, Emalee, meeting new calf
Janey had Axel (baby donkey)

So far, we have four heifer (girl) calves and one bull (boy) calf running around the farm this year. We are looking forward to many more as the spring and summer progress.

On, Thursday, March 24th in the wee hours of the morning, Janey, one of our miniature donkeys, had her foal. His name is Axel and is a very sweet boy.

Just a reminder before I run off… “Sandy Acres Meats” is open every Monday from 3-7pm or by appointment for your meat purchases of beef and lamb. Call/Contact Marie 715-579-2917 to set up an appointment time.

Have a great day! Woof woof!

Sincerely, Wally (the trusted border collie)

Counting Sheep

Woof woof! Welcome back to the farm blog. We have updates we are excited about.

February was a busy lambing month. Fifty-eight ewes ended up lambing and they had a total of 123 lambs. They’ve been so much fun! Emalee (Jeff & Marie’s granddaughter) even came out to do some photos on Valentine’s Day.

We’ve had a few calves born as well and look forward to continuing to update you as the spring progresses on that front.

May will bring another round of lambing! The calves will come throughout the season, and we will have several calves available for sale as well.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Saturday, May 21st will be our Spring Open House featuring meat specials, farm tour, and petting zoo of our animals. Admission will be free.

I hope your enjoying some spring weather and I’ll be back soon with updates. Woof Woof!

sincerely, Wally the trusted border collie at Sandy Acres
