Hey y’all! I hope you had an amazing holiday season! We sure did here at Sandy Acres.
We are truly excited for the year ahead, but I have some pretty awesome news…. Brady, Tonya and Kairi give me the awesome privilege of babysitting whenever they are away, working or traveling. Guess what!!!? I’ve told you about Kukes before, but now they also have a new puppy, Kukes’ full sister, Luna! I cannot express how much fun it has been to have two adorable Goldens around the farm, however, I don’t think anyone is quite as cute as me (I’m kidding, kinda…at least I try to be humble).
We’ve also updated the website this week with a For Sale page, Our Meat Specials, and the Meat page is updated! We also now have an updated home page and our history has been updated. Please check it out! www.Sandy-Acres.com
Also, we are always open for a Meat Appointment by calling Marie 715-579-2917. If you are interested in any of the cattle we have for sale, please call, I can help show you around with Marie’s help.
Until next time… I’ll be working and playing here at the farm.
Lots of love, Wally the Trusted Border Collie

Oh boy has the last month been crazy! I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and will have an amazing New Year!
At the beginning of December, I got to spend a whole week taking care of my favorite little girl, Kairi! Her mom and dad, Tonya and Brady went on their honeymoon to Mexico. While they were away, we all got to play!
On December 12th, we ultrasounded 43 ewes that are due starting on March 1st with a total of 107 lambs! We are going to be busy come March!
On December 22nd, we all got our Christmas gift! One of our Braunvieh Cows had her calf. We named her Holly.
The month has been fun playing with my dog friends, working with the humans, enjoying time with Kairi, and enjoying Christmas with my family. I even got a little extra cuddle time with my mom!
I, along with everyone else at Sandy Acres, wish you a Happy New Year!
Just a special note: we are open for Meat Sales throughout the holidays, so if you need any Lamb or Beef, call Marie 715-579-2917 to set up an appointment.
Sincerely, Wally the trusted Border Collie

Hey! It’s Wally here! As I hear gunshots in the woods far away, Marie and I do chores and wish all the hunters a happy, bountiful and safe hunt this season. The humans keep joking that many Wisconsinites consider this weekend a Holiday. Many families grow traditions around things like that. Jeff and Marie may not hunt today, but Jeff used to in his younger years. Brady, their son, did quite a bit of youth hunting. Nowadays, Kayla, their daughter, and her husband, Nick, enjoy the tradition. They even shared their view from the stand with us! They’ve enjoyed a few sightings and their time in nature so far!
The last couple of weeks have been memorable! We had a Harvest Celebration with some neighbors the last Saturday of the month, Kayla and Marie went to Taste of the North in Chippewa Falls on November 8th, and a Benefit for Loren Solberg was held last Saturday.
Jeff also finished combining corn this past Thursday. This year was a very challenging growing year with a late spring followed by almost no rain in July and August. Ultimately, the lack of rain led to lower than expected yields this fall. The picture is of him combining soybeans a few weeks ago.
A couple bits of news!
We have three Boar Goats, all bucks, for sale! $140 each or $375 for all three.
Additionally, do you know someone who might be looking for a Miniature Hereford Steer to show next summer? Meet Herb! He’s broke to lead, went to Kids and Cows in October with the herd, and is ready to go! $1000
Sandy Acres Meats is offering a “Black Friday Special” through the end of November!!! Open by appointment nearly anytime, call Marie 715-579-2917
Have a wonderful week! I’ll be back to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving on Thursday!
With Love, Wally the Trusted Border Collie
Hey Everyone! TODAY, Saturday, November 10th is Loran Solberg’s Benefit at Jeff & Marie Pagenkopf’s which means it’s here at Sandy Acres. If you live in our area, PLEASE come out today to support this wonderful man and his family!
Wally will be back with a blog early next week with some of the fun updates, but he said it was most important that we encourage y’all to come out to the event today. His family, this community, and his fellow church members have worked hard to put together a wonderful event that your family will enjoy and will also benefit a wonderful man!
Sincerely,
All of us here at Sandy Acres
Hey everyone! I didn’t mean to be on hiatus after my family arrived home from Beef Expo, but I was super excited to be back to work with Marie! However, today arrived and I knew it was the right day to update you!
What do you think of my crazy bath hair and the added touches to my Halloween photo?
Minnesota Beef Expo was the final show of the year that Miniature Herefords bred and born at Sandy Acres were at. Jack and Julia were the youth that showed. Ultimately, Danika, a calf shown by Julia, won Reserve Champion Miniature Hereford. The kids were proud of their show animals and so was Marie! Marie works hard to try to breed quality representations of the Miniature Herefords.
Recently, a wonderful person, a neighbor, a friend, a husband to a wonderful woman, a dad, a grandfather, was diagnosed with Cancer. There will be a benefit for him at the farm on November 10th. Please see the sign below for details. If you live in the area, please come and support Loren Solberg and his family.
Until next week… yours truly, Wally!
Hey! It’s Wally here…. I have a guest blogger in my place this time. “Peppa” is a Miniature Hereford calf born early this spring. She argued with me for a while, because she’s an overcomer and thought I was giving her my blog! I reminded her that the blog is “Wally’s Farm Adventures”… not hers. (Laughing) However, I am really excited to have her tell you a little about herself as well as the experience of Kids & Cows.
Hey everyone! My name is Peppa! Wally probably already told you, but I really was hoping he was turning over his blog to me. He said if I behaved myself I might get a guest spot again in the future, but he said I needed to behave.
I’m a Miniature Hereford calf born in February this year. My mom, Mona, was a show animal in her younger days and loves the humans so we found ourselves getting lots of love from them! Unfortunately, I came down with something terrible… luckily, the relationship we had with the humans helped make sure I was caught in the nick of time (however, all animals are loved and carefully watched over here at Sandy Acres). We aren’t certain, but we think I may have had Clostridium. Regardless, I went down and the humans worked hard to keep circulation in my legs and body, they lifted me each day, massaged liniment on my legs, bottle fed me, gave me the medicine I needed, and loved me. My mom, Mona, helped too. Within a couple of weeks, I was walking again. Over time, I grew, slower than the other calves, but I am catching up now. The best part is I’m genuinely a pet and am the most gentle with kids of all the calves this year!
Saturday, I had the AWESOME opportunity to go to the 13th Annual Kids & Cows Family Day at the Barron County Fairgrounds. Wally had to stay home to watch over things. Marie and Kayla brought me along with seven other Miniature Herefords to the fairgrounds for this event!
The goal of the day is to educate and give kids (& adults) the opportunity to learn about beef cattle. They go over showing, nutrition, fitting, and judging. There is always so much to learn that day. After a few classes in the morning, the afternoon was spent with kids of all ages, starting at age 4, showing cattle in showmanship classes. I was used quite a bit since I have such a calm personality! They start with the youngest kids and work their way up to adults. After adult showmanship, they do breed classes by age. After the Supreme Champion Bull and Female are both chosen, the day is over!
I sure hope I can go again! I loved every single minute of it!
Although Wally insists he will be back next time, after their return from Minnesota Beef Expo this upcoming weekend, I sure hope to be back again sometime! Until then… be awesome!
Lots of love, Peppa, the amazing, sweet, overcoming, adorable Miniature Hereford!
